Mick Stephenson commenced his career with Ambulance Victoria in 1996 as a paramedic, becoming a Mobile Intensive Care Ambulance (MICA) paramedic in 1999.

A former intensive care nurse his special interests lie in algorithmic patient care, cardiac arrest improvements, systematic patient assessment and the validation of paramedic work through research.

He is a co-author and researcher on a number of clinical trials of international significance. He has held many positions as a MICA paramedic and senior manager and is currently the Executive Director Emergency Operations with AV together with holding the role Adjunct Associate Professor Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine, and Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice at Monash University.

Mick was awarded the Ambulance Service Medal in the Australia Day Honours 2015 for his contribution to improving patient care and clinical outcomes.
