Director, Centre for Research and Evaluation – Ambulance Victoria
Professor Karen Smith is the Director of the Ambulance Victoria Centre for Research and Evaluation. She is also an adjunct Professor with the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine and the Department of Community Emergency Health and Paramedic Practice, Monash University.
Professor Smith co-founded and chairs the Victorian Ambulance Cardiac Arrest Registry (VACAR) and co-founded the Victorian State Trauma Registry (VSTR) at Monash University. Karen is a Chief Investigator on the NHMRC funded Australian Resuscitation Outcomes Consortium (AUS-ROC) Centre for Research Excellence (CRE) and the NHMRC funded CRE in Pre-hospital Emergency Care (PEC-ANZ). She has also been a Chief Investigator on large randomised clinical trials and has attracted over 17 million dollars in competitive grants. She has authored over 160 manuscripts in Medline indexed journals.
Professor Smith also has extensive experience in evaluation methodology and is responsible for a large evaluation portfolio, the results of which drive key organisational decision making.
